In accredited laboratories, we analyse the chemical, physical, and microbiological properties of materials and products in compliance with applicable European and international standards and regulations.

Independence and neutrality are our top priorities in the certification of products, personal protective equipment, and management systems, as well as in the awarding of certification marks.

Our ISC department covers all aspects of marketing, footwear production, and leather goods, offering a wide range of seminars and training courses.
Biotechnology
A key focus of our research and development is biotechnology. In our own research facilities, we develop innovative concepts for sustainable, environmentally friendly product and energy generation.

Feasibility study on biowaste digestion at the Pirmasens Energy Park: Potential for sustainable biowaste recovery
The PFI feasibility study shows that regional biowaste digestion at the Pirmasens Energy Park offers enormous potential for climate protection, energy generation and efficient biowaste recycling. Through modern digestion technology and inter-municipal cooperation, transport distances could be shortened, emissions significantly reduced and new regional value chains created.

PFI becomes an associate member of the European footwear industry confederation CEC
Since February 2026, the PFI has been an associate member of the Confédération Européenne de l’Industrie de la Chaussure (CEC). With its many years of expertise in shoe development, product testing and sustainability, the institute will contribute even more know-how to European innovation and sustainability initiatives in the future.
