Welcome to PFI

The Test and Research Institute Pirmasens – PFI – is an internationally acknowledged service and research centre focusing primarily on testing, R&D, and certification. Originally founded to serve the needs of the footwear industry, PFI has long established a reputation for excellence in other areas and for other products.

We test whether consumer goods satisfy legal requirements and support manufacturers in quality managegement as well as in optimising their products and processes. Our strength lies in a unique combination of laboratories, interdisciplinary engineering, and certification authority.

Our staff of 100 scientists, technicians, and laboratory personnel develops turnkey solutions for industry, commerce, government agencies, consumer organisations, and insurance companies.

We are present where our clients are located: For example, PFI has subsidiaries in Hongkong and Turkey; further subsidiaries in India and Vietnam will follow soon. Furthermore, we are member of EURIS, a union of European testing institutes, and are constantly involved as a project partner in cross-border projects.
